The Boulder Laboratories Employee Association (BLEA) is composed of all employees (both full and part time) of the federal agencies of NIST, NOAA, ERL, MASC, NDGC, NTIA and ITS and all contractors who work for these agencies (including students, co-ops, and post doctoral appointments). BLEA was created to serve as the social and civic organization for these employees. BLEA organizes picnics, outings to Nuggets and Rockies games, children’s’ Christmas parties and other social events. BLEA also benefits the employees directly by securing group discounts for sporting and entertainment events, and by providing discount merchandise from local merchants.
Each organizational unit within these agencies is entitled to representation on the BLEA Board of Directors. This Board governs the distribution of the funds from the BLEA treasury, organizes group activities, and secures group discounts for BLEA members. The Board of Directors also advises the Boulder laboratory management on such subjects as recreational facilities on site, vending machine, and cafeteria operations.
The revenue for the BLEA treasury comes from a percentage of the profit of the sales from the vending machines. Other sources of income such as fundraisers are also put into the treasury.
